I use to be and still are in many ways a makeup lover. On my journey of health and discovery I have learnt more and more about the toxins that are contained in many of our popular makeup brands. We should be taking great care about not only what we put into our bodies, but also what we put on them given our skin is the largest organ!
Why should you care what type of make up you are putting on your skin?
Research is now emerging about how damaging some ingredients found in beauty and personal care can be. Many being linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, neurotoxicity, skin irritation and many other adverse health effects.
So why organic over natural?
If you choose an organic certified brand over 'natural make up' you have more guarantees over the absence of GMO and petrochemical ingredients, parabens, phenoxyethanol, perfumes and synthetic colorants. Also, the majority of the ingredients will be organic in their raw form and of natural origin. Sadly, natural does not always mean free from chemical in the production of their ingredients.
It also ensures the products are not tested on animals and ethical working standards are maintained for all involved in the making of the products. A win all round in my books.
Another important bonus is that certified organic make up doesn’t further contribute to the toxic load of the environment as they are free from ingredients that use chemical pesticides and fertiliser.
So make the switch not only for your health, but for the health of our environment! It doesn’t need to be overnight, but as your products need replacing switch them to certified organic brands. Your skin, your health and environment will thank you for it.
